National Conference (NC) leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, has launched a scathing critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he perceives as the politicization of the abrogation of Article 370. Abdullah accused the BJP of exploiting the issue for political gains, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's promotion of a movie centered around Article 370 as evidence of such exploitation.

Abdullah questioned the rationale behind the Prime Minister's endorsement of a film focused on Article 370, suggesting that the move was indicative of the BJP's propensity to use the issue as a political tool. He contended that the emotional connection that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had with Article 370 was undeniable, and even those who initially celebrated its abrogation are now lamenting its absence.

The former Chief Minister highlighted the sentiments of residents from Leh, who had rejoiced at the revocation of Article 370 but are now expressing discontent and demanding special status for the region. Abdullah's remarks come in response to Prime Minister Modi's recent assertion that Article 370 was exploited by a few families for their personal gain, and its abrogation has liberated the region from their dominance.

Prime Minister Modi's endorsement of a movie centered around Article 370 during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir further fueled Abdullah's criticism, as he interpreted it as a blatant attempt to leverage the issue for political mileage. The movie, titled 'Article 370', produced by Aditya Dhar of "Uri: The Surgical Strike" fame and starring Yami Gautam, portrays the role of an intelligence agent in Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370.

The revocation of Article 370 by the Union government on August 5, 2019, marked a significant turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, stripping the region of its special status and dividing it into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The move sparked widespread debates and polarizing opinions, with the BJP hailing it as a decisive step towards integration and development, while opposition parties, including the NC, condemned it as a unilateral and undemocratic decision.

Abdullah's remarks underscore the deep-seated divisions and complexities surrounding the issue of Article 370, which continues to shape the political discourse and socio-cultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. As the region grapples with the aftermath of the constitutional changes, the debate over the implications and repercussions of Article 370's abrogation remains a contentious and emotive subject for all stakeholders involved.
